Maverick has been adopted! 02-08-2014

Male German Shepherd Dog about 1-2 years old. Gets along with other dogs.

Young Sir Maverick has a lot of potential to be a great dog for someone. He's loving, sweet and playful with female dogs and people; he's gentle with people although still a little mouthy but not in a rough way, more like "hey, let's play!" He listens well, and is very bright and eager to learn.

Since Mav is a shepherd, he does show protection instincts, but doesn't appear aggressive about it. He is very food motivated which will enhance his training, even perhaps advanced training. He's also very gentle with people when he plays.

We've learned that he loves to go for walks & runs. He'll also sneak up on the bed if you let him. He doesn't seem to understand exactly what toys are and what they're for, but goes crazy over a ball if you'll throw it for him. He does well in public, already walking well on a leash.

Maverick should probably go to a home with shepherd experience that understands how their protection personality works. He hasn't really been around younger kids so we'd lean towards placing him in a home with a little older kids or teenagers. An active home is a must for this youngster!

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
