Riley has been adopted! 08-06-2011
Riley was rescued on her last day at a very impacted city shelter. Thanks to a kind shelter worker who brought her to our attention, we were able to get her out in the nick of time. We do not know how she lost her ear but it is a recent loss and her skin is still healing. We had her examined by our vet team this afternoon and Riley is indeed pregnant. She is a gorgeous, sweet, pure bred shepherd that we are assuming someone was using for breeding. We don't want to think about what kind of life she had before, we just want to focus on the wonderful future she will now have! Update 5/31/11 Taking care of Riley and her pups to be will not be inexpensive. We would love help to cover her medical needs and the needs of her pups. If you would like to help us out, we would love the support.
Finally recovered from URI, Riley delivered 10 puppies on 5/29/11. Obviously gaining much needed weight, her puppies were not that small, in spite of the lack of care in the beginning of her pregnancy. Momma Riley and her babies are resting comfortably in their foster home. Stand by for updates and pictures of the new family.
The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible when permitted by law. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
